In this course, we will study the amazing transformation of the Christian Church from a persecuted minority to the official state religion of the Roman Empire. Early doctrinal diversity and conflict gave way to a uniform and universal creed as the Holy Spirit guided the establishment of a Scriptural canon and Biblical orthodoxy. As the Roman Empire fell into decay in western Europe, the Church became the primary cultural power of the Middle Ages. We will study all of these developments and talk about the lessons and principles that can be learned from this history and applied to a life of faith within the church community today.
